1. DIY MFA

I didn’t major in Creative Writing in college, but the writing was a big part of my curriculum (I majored in History and Anthropology). As I have gotten older, and really couldn’t find a job actually using my degree, I turned to making writing into my career. This book by Gabriela Pereira has been a fantastic resource. She goes through all of the topics you would cover in a MFA in Creative Writing without the astronomical price tag.

2. Writing Bad Facebook Group

We have all had those experiences with facebook groups that are full of judgment and not really any helpful information. Writing Bad is just the opposite! You can post any writing-related
problems (i.e. you want opinions on a paragraph, you can’t find the word you are looking for, etc.) or questions and the members are quick to offer valuable help. This FB group was one of the things that really got me back into writing for myself. They also have a Writing Bad Promo group where you can post for your writing-related businesses.

3. Writer Mom Life

Writer Mom Life is a podcast, blog, and facebook group that provides a much-needed community for those moms who are trying to fit writing into their lives. I have to say, that this podcast is one of the most valuable resources that I use as a writer and as a mom. It is full of wonderful information from pen names to mom guilt to NaNoWriMo. If you are a mom who has or wants to self-publish a book, this is one of the best resources you will be able to find!

4. Grammarly

I recently started using Grammarly to help improve the readability of my writing, and already I can tell a difference.  Currently, I am only using the free version, which is perfect for what I need at the moment.  However, as I get more and more into this writing thing, I may switch to the paid version, which is still only about $12 a month!
