I have been a huge fan of Gilmore Girls since I was a young teenager.  From the first day I turned it on, I fell in love.  I loved Stars Hollow, I loved Rory and Lorelai, Emily and Richard, and Luke and Sookie.  They were a staple in my house from that day forward. I even got my mom, sister, and now my daughter to fall in love with them as well!

So, you can imagine how psyched I was to learn that there would be a reboot and that Lauren Graham was coming out with Talking as Fast as I Can.

This book was surprisingly amazing.  Not that I didn’t expect to like it, I just don’t read a lot of memoirs and I was afraid that it would be a little boring.  It was anything but!  Usually, I pride myself on not wanting to know everything little thing about a celebrity’s life and want to respect their privacy, but, I mean, this was a book by Lorelai Gilmore.

I had to read it.

I can’t believe it took me almost two years to get around to it, but when I did, I was pleasantly surprised.  Throughout the entire book, Lauren writes like Lorelai talks. Fast, quirky, and relatable. She went into her time on the original Gilmore Girls, the seasons she spent on Parenthood, and the Gilmore Girls reboot with just enough dish so I could get my fill of one of my favorite actresses but still managing to keep some of her life private.  While I understand the bad reviews this book gets specifically for the fact that she didn’t dish on everything, I have to give her my respect. That is a tough thing to do.

I love how creative the chapter titles are!  That isn’t really ever a deal breaker, you could name the chapters 1, 2, and 3, but I always like when the chapter titles draw you in just a little.

Old Lady Jackson.  That is all that needs to be said.  No, really, I thought the invention and her writing about Old Lady Jackson were fabulous.  I need an OLJ in my life.

I found myself laughing out loud every few pages.  Apparently, it happened so often that my husband started giving me these weird looks like I should probably put the book down and get back to reality.

The Kitchen Timer

As a writer myself, I am so thankful she put in the stuff about her writing process, especially Don Roos’ Kitchen Timer method.  It made me feel like I was not alone in this writing journey, even LAUREN GRAHAM struggled with it! I will absolutely be implementing the Kitchen Timer method in my writing from here on out.

This was a wonderful read, and I would recommend it to any Gilmore Girls or Parenthood fan. Talking as Fast as I Can gave me the Gilmore Girls fix that I needed.  It is lighthearted and full of excitement, I just wish there was more of it!
